The Museum Today
‘My apartment is decidedly charming. I felt slightly melancholic after dinner to find myself uprooted once more. I gradually became reconciled with the idea and went to bed delighted. Woke up the next day to see the most gracious sun on the houses opposite my window. The view of my little garden and the cheerful appearance of my studio always make me happy.’
The Musée Delacroix is a unique space. The artist’s former home is a place of memory, created in homage to Delacroix by the greatest artists of the 1920s such as Maurice Denis, Paul Signac, Édouard Vuillard, and Ker-Xavier Roussel, to name a few. It is a testament to their admiration for the painter and his work.
Housed in painter Eugène Delacroix’s former apartment, the Musée National Eugène-Delacroix is a unique and fascinating museum space, a rare gem at the heart of Paris.
The museum collection, assembled with the creation of the museum in 1932, boasts over a thousand artworks by Delacroix—paintings, drawings, prints, writings—and objects that belonged to him, as well as artworks created by artists who admired him.
A place of memory but also a place full of life, the Musée National Eugène-Delacroix takes part in a variety of national cultural events, such as the “Fête de la Musique” music festival, the Long Night of Museums, the “Journées du Patrimoine” heritage days, the “FIAC” international contemporary art fair, the Spring of Poets, etc.
The museum also participates in events such as Designer’s Days, the “Paris Face Caché” festival, “Rendez-vous au Jardin”, Photo Saint-Germain, and the Paris Music Festival.
The museum regularly schedules family workshops, conferences, concerts, and events for a wide-ranging audience of adults and children, museum regulars and new visitors alike.
Enhancing the visitor’s experience and discovery of the museum is our core mission. The entire team is pleased to welcome you to the Musée Eugène-Delacroix.
