 Children's workshops

The museum workshops take place on Tuesdays, when the museum is closed to the public, in Delacroix's own studio and among his works, under the direction of our visual artist.
Given the limited space and to ensure quality, each group is limited to 20 people.
These two workshops are designed to help the participants perceive Delacroix's creative spontaneity and artistic approach, while enjoying drawing.

-"From nature with Delacroix" (6-18 years old)

Make your own sketchbook at the museum!
Eugène Delacroix made more than 6000 drawings, including many studies from nature.
Sketchbook were of paramount importance for him; his sketches from nature enabled him to remember atmospheres, forms, colors, lights and shades...
During the workshop, children will make their own sketchbooks-provided by the museum-with the help of our visual artist, by referring to Delacroix through direct observation of his studies of landscapes as well as facsimiles of his travel notebooks. The technique used is that of pencil with colored lines and notes. The workshop also introduces the children to watercolor technique in a simple and manageable way through the use of watercolor pencils.

-Delacroix "Romanticism and Orientalism" (8-18 years old)
sketchbook

For Eugène Delacroix, considered the leader of French Romanticism, Morocco was a dazzling land. His travels there were an unforgettable experience which deeply influenced his way of painting after he came back, and throughout his life he constantly drew on his vivid memories.
Children will first be introduced to Orientalism through some works by Delacroix; they will then make their own sketchbooks using graphite and watercolor pencils, through direct observation of facsimile of sketchbooks that Delacroix brought back from Morocco.
Sketchbooks are intended to be carried everywhere, and what characterizes sketches is their rapidity of execution. Children are encouraged to understand and experience freedom of movement through the art of drawing.
